Tobias George Smollett (19 March 1721 – 17 September 1771) was a Scottish Scotland is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. In the preface, Smollett acknowledges the connections of his novel to the two satirical (1748) and The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle (1751), which influenced later novelists such as Charles Dickens Charles John Huffam Dickens, FRSA , pen-name "Boz", was the most popular English novelist of the Victorian era, and one of the most popular of all time.
